Great question! 

When we convert your memories, we make sure to convert them from the very beginning to the very end. This means that if there is blank space on the originals, that will show up on the digitized copies as well. These blank spaces often show up as a blank blue screen. 

It's just our way of showing that all your memories are preserved from the first second of the tape to the last.
